Interview with Klaas

1) How did you get to spot prostitutes on Google Street View?

Klaas: I saw a few “girls waiting” on the street view gallery. Then I began posting the girls of which I knew they where on Streetview (like along the SS417 in Sicily, in Las Palmas, near Madrid and Barcelona, etc.) because I saw them in the past in real life.
But when I posted a few everyday, someone called mapper, got mad and removed a few. All new ones that I submitted got blocked as well.

2) Do you remember your first spotting? What was it?

Klaas: No, not really. So it certainly wasn’t the best one.

3) What countries/cities are you mainly interested in and why?

Klaas: I’m not mainly interested in a specific city or country. A good spotting behind a window [in Amsterdam] is as good as a nice one on a chair in Spain or Italy.

4) What’s your favorite spotting?

Klaas: The girls in Fresno, USA, and the originals in the Bokkingshang in Deventer and Spuistraat, Amsterdam. I also had 2 other good ones in Amsterdam at the “óude zijds voorburgwal” that are removed now. The girl in Zurich with the high white boots is one of my favorites, too.

5) Do you have any tips for people who are just starting out to spot hookers on Google Street View?

Klaas: In a city, try to find the red light district, zona roja etc. and find out if the disctricts are active at daytime or else you won’t find a thing.
Industrial zones are often frequented by truckers, so those district are popular places among street prostitutes.
Prostitution can often be found close to rivers (or any other waterways). Also check if there is an airfield or military base in the neighbourhood.
Before you check out a long road, first take some samples at the crossroads. It is more likely to spot a prostitute on a crossroad than on a long road that might turn out empty.
On streets like the Strada Provinciale 1 Bonifica del Tronto, you can check the terrain along the road on Google Earth. Where there are sandpaths to the woods, you have a higher chance of spotting a prostitute.
